<span>The answer is B. Elijah Lovejoy. In 1837, a pro-slavery mob in Alton, Illinois, murdered Elijah Parish Lovejoy as he defended the site of his anti-slavery newspaper, The Alton Observer. The mob wrecked his press and set fire to the warehouse where he stored his abolitionist materials.
