SS (Schutzstaffel), founded in Germany in 1925, served the Nazi Party leader Adolf Hitler’s bodyguards until 1945. SS later became one of the most powerful and feared organizations in Nazi Germany. SS were feared because they were ruthless followed strict orders and ideologies of the Nazis. Heinrich Himmler became head of the Schutzstaffel in 1929 when Hitler named him as commander. Himmler became known as the architect of the SS and expanded its size and role.
