<span>In order for us to compare a dog to a donut, the properties of life must be determined.  These properties are Organization (unicellular/multicellular), Metabolism (anabolism/catabolism), Homeostatis, Growth, Reproduction, Response and Evolution.  Since the dog has all of these properties while the donut doesn’t, therefore we can say that the dog is a living organism and the donut isn’t.</span>
