A flat disk, a solid sphere, and a hollow sphere each have the same mass m and radius r. The three objects are arranged so that

an axis of rotation passes through the center of each object. The rotation axis is perpendicular to the plane of the flat disk. Which of the three objects has the largest moment of inertia?

Answer:

I_{disc} = \frac{1}{2}mR^2

I_{sphere} = \frac{2}{5}mR^2

I_{hollow} = \frac{2}{3}mR^2

so largest moment of inertia is for Hollow Sphere

Explanation:

Moment of inertia flat disc is given as

I_{disc} = \frac{1}{2}mR^2

moment of inertia of solid sphere

I_{sphere} = \frac{2}{5}mR^2

moment of inertia of hollow sphere

I_{hollow} = \frac{2}{3}mR^2

all the three objects are given with same mass and same radius

so largest moment of inertia is for Hollow Sphere

A cat with a mass of 4.50 kilograms sits on a ledge 0.800 meters above the ground. What is the potential energy of the cat? 346
Gennadij [26K]
This is a question about converting energy from one form to another.

<span>While it is sitting on the ledge, it isn't moving, so at that point it doesn't have any kinetic energy. What it has is gravitational potential energy due to its height above the ground. </span>

<span>Just as it lands, it's at ground level, so it doesn't have any gravitational potential energy anymore. </span>

<span>The reason is that on the way down, it sped up, so all its original gravitational potential energy was turned into kinetic energy. </span>

<span>So if you can work out how much potential energy it had to start with, you will know that that is how much kinetic energy it ended up with just before it landed. </span>

<span>potential energy = m * g * h </span>
<span>where m is the mass, g is the acceleration due to gravity and h is the height </span>

potential energy = 4.45 * 9.81 * 0.800 = 35.3 J

The process of physically separating a single-phase mixture into components if the components have different boiling points is c
kobusy [5.1K]
This process of physically separating a single phase mixture into several components would be termed simple distillation, I believe.

As it is mentioned that one is separating them based on their different boiling points.
