Read the excerpt from The Odyssey. ‘Out to sea again!' My men were mutinous, fools, on stores of wine. Sheep after sheep they bu

tchered by the surf, and shambling cattle, feasting,—while fugitives went inland, running to call to arms the main force of Cicones. This was an army, trained to fight on horseback or, where the ground required, on foot. They came with dawn over that terrain like the leaves and blades of spring. So doom appeared to us, dark word of Zeus for us, our evil days. Which central idea should be included in a paraphrase of this excerpt? The forces sent by Cicones to fight Odysseus and his men arrived during the early morning hours. Odysseus and his men feasted on the animals they slaughtered while on the island of Cicones. The forces sent by Cicones to stop the plundering of Odysseus and his men were skilled and powerful. Odysseus views the forces sent by Cicones as punishment from the Greek god Zeus.

How does Ponyboy’s point of view influence how events in this chapter are described? What can you determine about Ponyboy’s char
elena55 [62]

The point of view presented by Ponyboy allows the reader to understand the events in a more personal and intimate way, as Ponyboy shows how he perceives things and how he feels about them.

Although you haven't shown it, we can see that this question is from the book "The Outsiders." Unfortunately, you didn't show the chapter to which this question refers, which makes it difficult for me to answer it specifically, but I will try to help you in the best possible way.

As we read these books, we can see that:

  • The narrator of the book is Ponyboy, who is also the protagonist of the story.
  • Ponyboy lives with his older brothers.
  • They live with little economic resources and all are involved with street gangs.
  • There is a lot of rivalry between street gangs, which creates a lot of violence and danger for the members.
  • Ponyboy witnesses these dangers many times, as he is part of the greaser gang, which is the enemy of the socs.

When we look at the narration of these conflicts between the gangs, we can see that Ponyboy does not feel represented by either side of the conflict, for this reason, he narrates the events in a more intimate way, reinforcing the sense of displacement he feels.

While Ponyboy doesn't feel like he belongs to any of these gangs, his brothers are very loyal to the greaser gang. In that case, if they narrated the conflicts, they would present a narrative with a strong bias towards how the greasers acted.

Alja [10]

The correct answer is "longing."

Explanation:

The poems are both similar because they are both referring to longing for something that is now gone. Both of the poems are from different cultures but still can have the same meaning when expressing their thoughts.

The line "all that's left" shows the longing and dreaming in the Haiku. In the other poem, the line that shows the longing is "I dwell in a lonely house I know ."

Poems can express many emotions and can be different for each reader. That is what makes poems so great to read. Everyone can have different emotions for them.

What do you think contributes to someone committing atrocities? explain.
hammer [34]
Criminologists have developed many theories as to why people commit crimes. If you check the History Learning Site, it lists one prominent theory that explains how people are influenced by the environment around them, especially the environment they grew up in. Conversely, others believe that one's biology and genetics determine an individual's potential to become a criminal. Other theories suggest that humans are innately self-interested and will commit crimes if they perceive the benefits of the crime to be greater than the risks to themselves. Another theory maintains that people commit crimes based on their social environment and the people they associate with. Still others believe that individuals commit crimes because they are unable to achieve success in life through legal means. Ultimately, the reason that people commit crimes is likely a combination of many different theories and is highly dependent on the individual situation and characteristics of a particular criminal.
