There was no single event that ended the Great Depression, but most would agree it was a combination of New Deal policies, and World War II (which created soaring demand for materials and thus jobs in the United States) that ended the Great Depression.

The focus on industrial production to support the war effort in World War II is what ultimately brought the Depression to an end.

The Great Depression had begun with the stock market crash in 1929 and persisted until the late 1930s. Efforts like the New Deal had sought to address and correct problems that led to the economic depression. However, ramping up as a supplier to the Allies and then as a participant in the Allied effort in World War II had an even greater impact on the American economy.

As reported by the Economic History Association (EHA):

  • The American economy expanded at an unprecedented (and unduplicated) rate between 1941 and 1945. The gross national product of the U.S., as measured in constant dollars, grew from $88.6 billion in 1939 — while the country was still suffering from the depression — to $135 billion in 1944. War-related production skyrocketed from just two percent of GNP to 40 percent in 1943.

Employment in the United States had also recovered greatly during wartime. The EHA also reports that "in 1944, unemployment dipped to 1.2 percent of the civilian labor force, a record low in American economic history and as near to 'full employment' as is likely possible."

The US economy continued its rapid expansion in the postwar years after 1945, which became a booming time of growth and prosperity in the US.

According to the puritan doctrine of predestination, how could one influence whether they were sent to heaven or hell after deat
yaroslaw [1]

The term “Puritanism” was given to members of the Anglican Church of England in mid-16th century who claimed they wanted to “purify” the church. It was particularly strong in British North America. One of their strongest beliefs was that of “predestination.”

The doctrine of predestination argues that one cannot chose to be saved, nor can we achieve salvation simply by our actions. Whether we are saved or not will depend on whether God chooses to save us.

They distinguish between:

Justification: When God elects those he will grant salvation.

Sanctification: The holy behaviour that comes with being saved.

Their belief was that God had already decided whether each person was going to be saved or not, and human behaviour could do nothing to alter it.

This belief, instead of making them despair, motivated the Puritans to try to find “evidence” of whether God had elected them. This evidence came in the form of their personal behaviour. Therefore, it prevented followers from falling into despair or temptation, and instead provided them with another reason to lead a righteous life.

According to him, pleasure can not be the end product of virtue. For the Greeks, virtue is same as excellence. A virtues person behaves in a particular way and is different for different people.

Thus the answer is ---
