An understanding of genetics an lead to new fields of healthcare, treatment, and earlier/more trustworthy diagnosis, because 1). it would allow scientists to see which genes in people with certain diseases are common, and then identify those genes in other people to help them get treatment, 2). this would lead to further research into the field of genetics, and (hopefully) eventually lead to scientists identifying genes that correlate with certain diseases/afflictions, and then help people find treatment/somehow prevent these diseases from occurring in the future, and 3). this would give allow scientists to help develop new treatments/medicines for certain gene-based diseases.
The more we understand genetics the more we will be able to treat genetic mutations during pregnancy, it also helps us understand how to prevent these genetic mutations as well as try and prevent them if they are see fit to have a negative affect on someones lifestyle.
