There are six sides on each die. For each possible score on Die 1, there are six possible scores on Die 2. So the number of possible combinations is 6*6 = 36.
It follows that if the dice are thrown 36 times, you would expect each combination to come up once.

We therefore simply need to know how many combinations add up to less than 5. (I've interpreted this as not including a total of 5 itself).
These combinations are: 1 and 1, 2 and 1, 1 and 2, 2 and 2, 3 and 1, and 1 and 3 ---> six combinations out of 36.

So you'd expect a sum less than 5 six times.

A small single engine airplane flies 120 miles in 2 hours against the wind (headwind). It then turns around and flies 240 miles
Brums [2.3K]

The speed of the airplane is 90 miles per hour and the speed of the wind is 30 miles per hour.

Relative Speed Concept;

When the plane flies against the wind;

 • Relative Speed = 120 = x -y

When the plane flies with the wind;

 • Relative Speed = 240 = x +y

Where in;

 • The speed of the air plane = x
 • The speed of the wind = y

By solving the equations simultaneously; we have;

 • x = 180 miles in 2 hours and y = 60 in 2 hours.

Ultimately, the speed of the airplane is 90 miles per hour and the speed of the wind is 30 miles per hour.

Total freshman = 58. Number of freshman who prefer cheese toppings= 14. Determined the probability that a freshman prefer cheese
Yakvenalex [24]

Answer:

The probability that a freshman prefer cheese toppings is 0.241

Step-by-step explanation:

Probability of any event E = \frac{\textrm{Number of favorable outcomes}}{\textrm{Total number of outcomes}}

Here, let E : Event of choosing cheese toppings

So, the number of favorable outcomes = 14

Total number of outcomes = 58

So, P(E) = \frac{\textrm{Number of students who like cheese toppings}}{\textrm{Total number of students}}

or, P(E) = \frac{14}{58} = 0.241379

So,the probability that a freshman prefer cheese toppings is 0.241379

Rounding of 0.241379 to the nearest thousandth, we get

Here , in 0.241379 thousandth digit is 3, and 3 < 5,

so the value of P(E) = 0.241

Which of these situations fit the conditions for using Bernoulli trials? Explain. a) You are rolling 66 dice and need to get a
shutvik [7]

Answer:

Experiments a) and d) fit the conditions for using Bernoulli trials.

Step-by-step explanation:

A Bernoulli trial is one where the variable is random and dichotomic, that is, it only has two possible outcomes, True/Sucess/Yes/etc. or False/Failure/No/etc. Also, each experiment has the same probability of sucess than the one before and the one after, that means, they are independent. This probability can be calculated by dividing the number of sucess cases by the number of total cases.

Experiment a), where you need four 3s is a Bernoulli trial, as getting a 3 is sucess and not getting a 3 is a failure, and each roll of the dice is independent from each other.

Experiment b) is not a Bernoulli trial as they are more than 2 possible outcomes for the home state of the customer (50 in the case of the US).

Experiment c) is not a Bernoulli trial, as they will be chosen at random, but the first woman will have different chances to be chosen than the fourth one (if they are 20 people, the first one will have 1/20 and the fourth 1/17, as one can't be chosen more than one time).

Experiment d) is a Bernoulli trial, as a student either admits cheating or not, and we can assume that every response was independent from each other.

Find the length of a rectangle given that the perimeter is 180 feet and the length is 5 times the width.
Tatiana [17]

Answer:

Hi there!

Your answer is:

The length is 75

Step-by-step explanation:

P=180

L=5w

Perimeter formula

L+L+W+W=P

Plug in known values

5W+5W+W+W=180

12W=180

/12

W=15

Plug in width in length formula!

L=5W

L=5(15)

L=75
