The OTR should recommend the use of a rhythmic beat by the use of metronome, music, or even just sticks, while the patient is stepping as they walk. There should be external cueing and feedback from the patient’s caregivers as this will improve the safety of the patient. When using a beat, the patient anticipates each movement easily that’s why there is smoother motor coordination.
