Light energy is one of the key factors in photosynthesis, which is how plants grow. Many, if not most animals/people eat plants, or they eat the animals that eat plants.

Light energy also effects the temperature and things like fog, clouds, seasonal patterns, and vegetation cover.

Also light helps us see.
