Khan academy algebra video why we do the same thing to both sides of an equation

I haven't seen this video but the way I think of it is to compare the equation with a chemical balance.  Both sides have equal weights and the pointer is at zero. To maintain the pointer at zero if we add/take away a weight from one side we have to do the same thing on the other side.

jonny [76]

Answer:

1134 cubic inches of soil

Step-by-step explanation:

You can split the shape apart and then add the volumes together at the end.

The bottom shape is 21x7x2

=294

The top shape is 12x10, and the last side can be foundfrom the other shape’s depth, 7.

12x10x7

=840

Solve for x<br> 12x + 7x = 5x - 42
victus00 [196]

Answer:

x = - 3

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

12x + 7x = 5x - 42, that is

19x = 5x - 42 ( subtract 5x from both sides )

14x = - 42 ( divide both sides by 14 )

x = - 3

The amount of paper that Lemon needs for the actual poster will be 8 square feet.

<h3>What is a rectangle?</h3>

It is a polygon with four sides. The total interior angle is 360 degrees. A rectangle's opposite sides are parallel and equal, and each angle is 90 degrees. Its diagonals are all the same length and intersect in the center.

The dimension of the poster is 10 cm by 20 cm.

And the scale factor will be 5 cm is equal to 1 ft.

Then the dimension of the poster will be 2 ft by 4 ft.

Then the amount of the paper that Lemon needs for the actual poster will be

Area = 2 × 4

Area = 8 ft²

Write the rule for finding a point translated vertically k units up. 2. Use this rule to find the coordinates for (−3, −6) when
Alex17521 [72]

Answer:

Rule is (x, y+k)

New point is (-3,9)

Step-by-step explanation:

A point translated vertically k units up means the x coordinate remains the same in the translation but the y coordinate is increased by k units

This can be represented mathematically as;

Let;s assume the point to be A with coordinates (x,y) then to get the image of the point under  a vertical translation k units up you add k to the y coordinate value.

Given ;

A=(\frac{x}{y} )\\\\T=(0,k)\\\\A'=(\frac{x}{y} )+(\frac{0}{k} )=(\frac{0+x}{y+k} )\\\\A'=\frac{x}{y+k} =(x,y+k)

where T is the translation

In the question

Given (-3,-6) and T is (0,5) the new coordinate will be

=(\frac{-3}{4}) +(\frac{0}{5} )=\frac{-3}{9} =(-3,9)
