Prophase is the first phase of mitosis. During this phase, the chromosomes inside the cell's nucleus condense and form tight structures. In fact, the chromosomes become so dense that they appear as curvy, dark lines when viewed under a microscope. Because each chromosome was duplicated during S phase, it now consists of two identical copies called sister chromatids that are attached at a common center point called the centromere.

At the start of metaphase, the microtubules arrange the chromosomes in a line along the equator of the cell, known as the metaphase plate . The centrosomes, on opposite poles of the cell, then prepare to separate the sister chromatids.

After metaphase is complete, the cell enters anaphase. During anaphase, the microtubules attached to the kinetochores contract, which pulls the sister chromatids apart and toward opposite poles of the cell . At this point, each chromatid is considered a separate chromosome.

Finally, once anaphase is complete, the cell enters the last stage of the division process — telophase. During telophase, the newly separated chromosomes reach the mitotic spindle and a nuclear membrane forms around each set of chromosomes, thus creating two separate nuclei inside the same cell

During cytokinesis the cytoplasm then divides to produce two identical cells.

Muscle fibers are directly surrounded by which thin layer of connective tissue?
wlad13 [49]

Answer:

The correct answer will be- epimysium

Explanation:

Epimysium is the fibrous connective tissue envelope which surrounds the muscle fibers of the muscle as a whole.

The epimysium plays an important role in maintaining the muscle structure as it protects the muscle from the friction caused by the associated bones and the muscles. The epimysium is continuous with other layers called the endomysium, perimysium, tendons and the fascia.

Thus, epimysium is the correct answers.

Make a list of the potential benefits and harms that might arise from knowing your complete genome sequence.
MaRussiya [10]

Answer:

The benefits and harms of learning about my DNA are mostly in medical, personal, civil and criminal fields.

Explanation:

a) Pros: learning about my genome sequence could provide new information on the genetic basis of poorly understood diseases with the potential to provide new therapies, immediate benefits based on the current understanding of genetic and health. Being aware of elevated risks for known diseases could allow me to make proactive decisions about my health such as visiting the doctor frequently for more check ups, screening. Choosing one type of prescription drug over another based on my metabolism, changing my diet or exercise plan, informing reproductive decisions, moreover, I would personalize my health care precisely.

b) Cons: the potential harms are the privacy invation, database exposure , which could lead to serious implications for the criminal justice system, which generally seeks to increase the availability of DNA samples from the population. It would create genetic discrimination, meaning that would be harder to find jobs, contract insurance,  even though we have a Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act.
