The temperate zone consists of four biomes – the temperate grassland, the temperate forests, the temperate desert and chaparral.  

Temperate forest: The temperate forests are of two types including the temperate deciduous and temperate rainforests. The forests exhibit the temperate climate and also the good soil. The temperate forests have moderate climate that is not extremely cold nor hot.

Temperate grasslands: The temperate grassland is the biome which is open grassy plain it is sparsely populated with trees. The climate remains moderate with low annual rainfall.

Chaparral: The chaparral is forest biome that is dominated by the shrubs or small trees like scrub oak. The climate of this region is Mediterranean climate. It exhibit wet and dry winters and hot dry summers.

Temperate deserts: These are found in the latitudes between the polar and tropical regions. They have rocky landscape, canyons, shrub vegetation and hoodoos. These have cold winters and hot summers.
