The difference between two positive integers is 4. If the smaller is added to the square of the larger, the sum is 68. Find the
xxMikexx [17]
<h3>Given</h3>

Two positive integers x and y

x - y = 4

x² + y = 68

<h3>Find</h3>

x and y

<h3>Solution</h3>

Add the two equations together.

... (x - y) + (x² + y) = (4) + (68)

... x² + x = 72

Rearrange to standard form and factor.

... x² + x - 72 = 0

... (x + 9)(x - 8) = 0

Use the zero product rule to find the solutions. That rule says the product is zero when one or more factors is zero.

... x + 9 = 0 ⇒ x = -9

... x - 8 = 0 ⇒ x = 8 . . . . . . the positive solution

Then we can find y from

... 8 - y = 4

... y = 4 . . . . . . . add y-4 to the equation

The two positive integers are 8 and 4.

A golf ball is hit from the ground with an initial velocity of 208 ft./s. assume the starting height of the ball is 0 feet. how
V125BC [204]
Check the picture below, it hits the ground at y = 0

thus

\bf \qquad \textit{initial velocity}\\\\&#10;\begin{array}{llll}&#10;\qquad \textit{in feet}\\\\&#10;h(t) = -16t^2+v_ot+h_o&#10;\end{array} &#10;\quad &#10;\begin{cases}&#10;v_o=\textit{initial velocity of the object}\\&#10;h_o=\textit{initial height of the object}\\&#10;h=\textit{height of the object at "t" seconds}\\&#10;----------\\&#10;v_o=208\\&#10;h_o=0&#10;\end{cases}

\bf h(t)=-16t^2+208t+0\implies h(t)=-16t^2+208t\impliedby &#10;\begin{array}{llll}&#10;\textit{now let's}\\&#10;make\\ h(t)=0&#10;\end{array}&#10;\\\\\\&#10;0=-16t^2+208t\implies 0=t(208-16t)&#10;\\\\\\&#10;\begin{cases}&#10;0=t\\&#10;----------\\&#10;0=208-16t\\&#10;\qquad 16t=208\\&#10;\qquad t=\frac{208}{16}&#10;\end{cases}

and I'm sure you know how much that is

it hits it at two points, as you notice in the picture, at 0 seconds, when it's first hit and goes up, and when it falls down.

Find the second term of the arithmetic series described by a1=0.25, an=4, and sn=8.5 answer: a2=
Elis [28]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

an=4=a1+(n-1)*d=0.25+(n-1)*d

so (n-1)*d=4-0.25=3.75

Sn=a1*n+(n-1)*d

a1*n+3.75=8.5

0.25*n+3.75=8.5

-3.75                -3.75

0.25*n=8.5-3.75=4.75

n=4.75:0.25

n=19

so a19=a1+(19-1)*d=4

          0.25+18*d=4

           -0.25           -0.25

         18*d=3.75

           d=3.75/18

            d=0.208

so  a2=a1+0.208=0.25+0.208=0.458

a2=0.458
