Answer:

Chemical spills, road salt, pesticides and fertilizers

Explanation:

Ground water pollution is addition of undesired substances to ground water that brings down its quality and makes suitable to be used by living beings. The chemical spills, road salt, pesticides and fertilizers get mixed with surface water and contaminate it. Percolation of contaminated surface water is the main cause of ground water pollution.

Describe the relationship between fatty acid chain length, saturation, and the melting point or fluidity of fatty acids.
Advocard [28]

Answer:

Because double bonds cause the hydrocarbon chain to bend. Therefore, the fatty acids cannot compact tightly together, reducing the van der Waals interaction between the fatty acids. The melting point of fatty acids is also affected by chain length. The longer the hydrocarbon chain is, the higher the melting point.

Which statement describes how pioneer species and climax communities are different?
Lorico [155]

Answer: D). Primary species have large numbers of offsprings, and climax communities contain species that have small numbers of offsprings.

An ecological succession is a process of gradual changes occurs in a biological community with respect to changes in the non-living abiotic factors  (water, air and sunlight) and with respect to time until the ecosystem attains stability. Primary or pioneer species are the species which invade the previously barren and primitive landmass for their survival. These species make the environment suitable for the growth of other species. These grow and develop in the initial stages of succession. These species are simple organisms which reproduce asexually and produces large number of offsprings. Examples are lichen and moss. Lichen grows on the surface of rocks and acids released by them causes withering of rocks into soil which facilitate the growth of mosses and other plants. Climax community develops in an ecosystem after replacing many previously inhabiting species. Climax community develops in the end of the ecological succession. It contains species which are highly complex and uses sexual reproduction for the production of offsprings which are less in number as compared to those produced by pioneer species by asexual reproduction.

The one-toed horse of today steadily evolved from its five-toed ancestor.
Vesnalui [34]

Answer:

It is true that one-toed horse of today steadily evolved from its five-toed ancestor.

Explanation:

  • Evolution is the law of nature. There is a continuous process of evolution in each biological species in nature.
  • Similarly, horses had 5 toes millions of year back, but according to the theory of gradualism their use decreased and toes started fusing.
  • Now, its only one toe at present but the vestigial left over provides the solid evidence for the fact that horses had 5 toes in the past.
