The objective is to get the variable (x) alone. To do this start be subtracting 3. What you do to one side you have to do to the other so you have to subtract three from the other side of the equal sign as well. So now you have:
20x= 17-3 subtract the 3 to get 20x=14
Now because the 20 is attached to the x In order to get the x alone you have to divide by 20:
20x/20. =14/20 divide 14 by 20

X=.7 or x=7/10

Answer: x = 7/10

Step-by-step explanation: First, we need to move all constants or variables other than x onto the other side of the equation. When a number crosses sides, its sign (- or +) changes to the opposite.

20x = 17 - 3

20x = 14

Now, we need to detach the 20 from the x. We can do this by dividing both sides of the equation by 20 (reversing the operation; the opposite of 20 · x is 20 · x ÷ 20).

20x ÷ 20 = 14 ÷ 20

x = 14/20

x = 7/10

malfutka [58]

Answer:

each sculpture will use 0.78 lb of clay

Step-by-step explanation:

"An art teacher has 9 students in her class he has 21.06 pounds of clay that divided evenly among the students"

21.06 lb/9 = 2.34 lb

Each student gets 2.34 lb of clay.

"each student will divide his clay into 3 equal amounts"

2.34 lb/3 = 0.78 lb

Answer: each sculpture will use 0.78 lb of clay

he test scores on the Chapter 10 mathematics test have a mean of 52 and a standard deviation of 10. Andrea scored 76 on the test
tekilochka [14]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Hello!

The mean is a measurement of central tendency that shows what is the most expected value of the variable. The standard deviation is a measurement of variability, it shows you how distant or dispersed are the values of a certain population or sample in regards to the value of the mean.

In this example the variable is X: score obtained on a math test.

It's mean is μ= 52 and its standard deviation is σ= 10

To know how many standard deviations away is a value of X concerning the mean you have to first subtract the mean to the value of X, X - μ, and then you have to divide it by σ:

(X - μ)/ σ

If X=76

(76 - 52)/ 10= 2.4

The score obtained by Andrea is 2.4σ away from the mean.

I hope it helps!
