What helps us understand tone is the question 4. What is the effect of the author's choice of words?

By effect we might mean the emotions we get from these words, the mood implied in the situation expressed by the words the author chose. The style of writing designs the atmosphere the text has and tells us the way we should understand it in some way.

Why does Faustus originally ask Mephastophilis to bring him Helen of Troy?
babymother [125]
I believe that Faustus originally asked Mephastophilis to bring him Helen of Troy because he lusted after Helen and wanted to possess her.
Helen is the symbol of ultimate beauty, and his hedonistic side wanted to indulge his more primal needs.
