The father is X^sY and the mother is X^SX^s or X^S X^S, the S’s representing the trait for sickle cell. We know the father is recessive for the gene, because he is not effective with it. The mother having two X chromosomes either is a carrier (being heterozygous). Males are more likely to receive sex-linked diseased because they only have one X chromosome.
