How does the author describe Delia’s character? Why is establishing this important to the story

English
1 answer:
Karolina [17]3 years ago
4 0

It seems that Delia, a “habitually meek” character, as is stated in the story, has endured years of domestic abuse from her husband, Sykes. She works tirelessly to take care of the family, with little, if any, input from him, and instead of being appreciative of her efforts, he beats and bullies her without end. I believe that Delia has always been a fighter.  For fourteen of the fifteen years of their marriage, Sykes has beaten his wife, but still she stayed, even though she was supporting him.  If her work taking in laundry has enabled her to keep her house, it's safe to assume she could have survived without Sykes in the house.

Lorico [155]
The descriptions that portray a chivalric hero are the following:
1. one who risks his life to protect his lord - for knights, it is very important that they protect their king at any cost
2. one who fulfills a promise to the queen - for chivalric heroes, fulfilling promises to anyone, and especially a woman was quite important
3. one who upholds strict moral values - a chivalric hero had to differentiate right from wrong and always do good things
