Assign variables to the groups. "S" stands for senior citizens and "C" stands for children.

3S + 9C = 75

8S + 5C = 67

We must cancel one of these variables out; I did this by multiplying the top equation by 8 and the bottom equation by 3.

24S + 72C = 600
24S + 15C = 201

Subtract these two expressions and you get C = 7. Plug 7 in for C into any of the above expressions and solve for S. You will find that S = 4.

Answer:

The required equation is: \mathbf{f(x)=\frac{3}{4}x-\frac{29}{4}}

Step-by-step explanation:

We need to find equation from the table given

x     f(x)

3     -5

7     -2

11     1

15    4

We can write equation in the form of y=mx+b

where m is slope and b is y-intercept.

Finding Slope

We can used the slope formula to find slope: Slope=\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}

From the table we have: x_1=3, y_1=-5, x_2=7, y_2=-2

Putting values and finding slope

Slope=\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}\\Slope=\frac{-2-(-5)}{7-3} \\Slope=\frac{-2+5}{7-3}\\Slope=\frac{3}{4}

So, we get slope m=\frac{3}{4}

Now, finding y-intercept

Using the slope m=\frac{3}{4} and point (3,-5) we can find y-intercept

y=mx+b\\-5=\frac{3}{4}(3)+b\\-5=\frac{9}{4}+b\\b=-5-\frac{9}{4}\\b=\frac{-5*4-9}{4}\\b=\frac{-20-9}{4}\\b=\frac{-29}{4}

The y-intercept is b=\frac{-29}{4}

So, the equation having slope m=\frac{3}{4} and y-intercept b=\frac{-29}{4} will be:

y=mx+b\\y=\frac{3}{4}x-\frac{29}{4}

The required equation is: \mathbf{f(x)=\frac{3}{4}x-\frac{29}{4}}

3. The area of a rectangular deck, in square meters, is given by the polynomial 40p2 + 24p.
lorasvet [3.4K]

Answer:

Length = 5p + 3

Perimeter = 26p + 6

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

Area = 40p² + 24p

Width = 8p

Solving for the length of deck

Given that the deck is rectangular in shape.

The area will be calculated as thus;

Area = Length * Width

Substitute 40p² + 24p and 8p for Area and Width respectively

The formula becomes

40p² + 24p = Length * 8p

Factorize both sides

p(40p + 24) = Length * 8 * p

Divide both sides by P

40p + 24 = Length * 8

Factorize both sides, again

8(5p + 3) = Length * 8

Multiply both sides by ⅛

⅛ * 8(5p + 3) = Length * 8 * ⅛

5p + 3 = Length

Length = 5p + 3

Solving for the perimeter of the deck

The perimeter of the deck is calculated as thus

Perimeter = 2(Length + Width)

Substitute 5p + 3 and 8p for Length and Width, respectively.

Perimeter = 2(5p + 3 + 8p)

Perimeter = 2(5p + 8p + 3)

Perimeter = 2(13p + 3)

Open bracket

Perimeter = 2 * 13p + 2 * 3

Perimeter = 26p + 6

Jack’s favorite sports drink comes in a 20-ounce bottle. the manufacturer of the sports drink requires a tolerance of 0.4 ounce.
Scrat [10]

Answer:

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

The manufacturer requires that the weight differs from 20 oz in at most 0.4 oz, therefore we can write this difference (which can be either above or below 20 oz, to be smaller than or equal to 0.4 oz.

The weight can be:

1) smaller than or equal to 20 oz + 0.4 oz:    then

2) larger than or equal to 20 oz - 0.4 oz:    then

and which combined, can be written as a double inequality;

This double condition can also be written using the absolute value symbol as:
