Weeks 21/22, Day 1/ 2

LA.910.1.7.7 The student will compare and contrast elements in multiple texts

(e.g., setting, characters, and problems).

Read the passage and select the best answer.

Scott started nodding off in class. Mrs. Thomas tapped his desk as she passed it.

They started off the school year without a teacher and now that they had a teacher

they missed the substitute teachers. The class took advantage of every substitute

teacher that came in to teach. They would take turns dropping books, pass notes all

period, and take turns pretending to sneeze. Each day a different substitute teacher

would show up and every day they did everything they could think of to annoy

him or her. No one learned anything. The new teacher put an end to their antics.

The more disruptive they were, the more homework they received. It was bad

enough that she gave a ton of homework every night no matter how well behaved

they were. Scott looked over at his teammate Brian and smiled. He couldn’t wait

until the track meet this afternoon. Brian was an expert at the hurdles and Scott

was king of the long jump. Scott was having difficulty in school lately. He was

more interested in staying up late watching television and he was having difficulty

staying awake in class as a result. Brian was also struggling but he was having

trouble sleeping at night due to family problems. It seemed lately that his parents

arguments became louder and louder every night.

Answer:

The audience knows the boastful king's power did not last.

Explanation:

According to the poem, there is a narration of a king who boasts and terrifies people.

Therefore, the sentence that best describes the dramatic irony in the poem is that the audience knows the boastful king's power did not last.

Dramatic irony is a situation whereby the audience already knows the outcome of a scene or the entire play whereas the actor or dramatist is unaware.

Savatey [412]

The answer is:

"Last week I sent a tuner over to my parents’ apartment and had the piano reconditioned, for purely sentimental reasons.”

This is intrisic because she says, "purely for sentimental reasons" meaning she wasn't influenced by anything from the outside, this was something she did on her own based on how she personally felt. It was based on her emotions and her feelings. Hope this helps:)
