Different words are used in different contexts. When two numbers are multiplied, one can be identified as the <em>multiplier</em>, and the other the <em>multiplicand</em>.
When two or more numbers or expressions are multiplied, they are often generically referred to as <em>factors</em>. The term <em>factors</em> can also be used to mean <em>prime factors</em>, as when we seek to express a product in terms of its factors.
