Answer:

Jefferson was named alongside Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Robert R. Livingston, and Roger Sherman as a member of a five-man committee tasked with preparing a declaration of independence to accompany the Richard Henry Lee resolution declaring the independence.

Explanation:

Once completed, Jefferson showed the first draft to the committee of five, who made some changes to the document and then presented it to Congress on June 28, 1776. The document's title was "A Declaration by the Representatives of the United States of America, in General Congress assembled "(" Declaration of the representatives of the United States of America meeting in General Congress ").

After voting in favor of the independence resolution presented by Richard Henry Lee on July 2, Congress turned its attention to the statement. During two days the document presented by the committee was debated, several modifications were made, deleting almost a quarter of the text and eliminating references to slavery, being approved on July 4, 1776.

The most contradictory of all this, is that at first Jeferson promoted the abolition of slavery and in That declaration of independence was going to be written that, but later it resulted in Jeferson supporting the continuation of slavery. He managed to pass a law that prohibited the importation of slaves, but not slavery itself.
