In a roller-skating rink, the skaters all move at different speeds. Most skate slightly faster or slower than others, but someti

mes an adventuresome skater accelerates to an "outlying" speed that is much higher than that of everyone else, creating a hazard. As a result, skating rinks often post a sign that says:Any skater moving faster than the average speed of all the skaterswill be asked to leave the rink.It is clear what the sign means, but it is statistically nonsensical. If there are 100 skaters in a rink, all skating at slightly varying speeds, what is the best estimate for how many of them are moving faster than the average speed of all the skaters?

Vesna [10]
  The z- score is the number of standard deviations from the mean value of the reference population.
  For example: the z-score of 2 is 2 standard deviations above the mean.
  The z -score of a value that is 2.08 standard deviations greater than the mean is 2.08.

Two factories I and II produce phones for brand ABC. Factory I produces 60% of all ABC phones, and factory II produces 40%. 10%
denpristay [2]

Answer:

0.3721 or 37.21%

Step-by-step explanation:

P(I) = 0.60; P(II) = 0.40;

P(not defective I) = 0.90; P(not defective II) = 0.80

The probability that the phone came from factory II, given that is not defective, is determined by the probability of a phone from factory II not being defective divided by the probability of a phone not being defective.

P(II|not) = \frac{P(II)*P(not_{II})}{P(II)*P(not_{II})+P(I)*P(not_{I})}\\P(II|not) = \frac{0.40*0.80}{0.40*0.80+0.60*0.90}\\ P(II|not) =0.3721 = 37.21\%

The probability is 0.3721 or 37.21%.

One number is 3 less than another number if their sum is 49
Musya8 [376]
One number is 26 the other is 23

x+y=49

Y=x+3,X (now substitute it in the equation)

x+3+x=49

2x+3=49

2x=46. X=23

Y=x+3. Y=23+3 =26 for checking 23+26=49
