The 'surpise' in Zaroffs bedroom was a suprise attack from Rainsford. For him, the most dangerous of hunts is not over yet as he is cornered in Zaroff's room (hence the allusion to baying) and has no choice but to fight.

it is a rebuttal. if you do not know what that is it is when someone says “using plastic straws are bad for the turtles” but you counter argument saying “when you get plastic straws at a restaurant it will still go in the trash whether you use one or not” you know what i mean? if you need help you can always comment on this post
