The reason some people oppose capital punishment is:

They believe it violates the Eight Amendment regarding cruel and unusual punishment, Option C.

Explanation:

According to the 8th Amendment, the individual rights are protected against any cruel and unusual  punishments. It also stops the federal government from imposing undue bail or fines.

So, in 1972, court made all the existing death penalty laws as invalid it violates the Eighth amendment.

So, the statement which the best fit as reason fir opposing capital punishment or death penalty is Option C. Other options which say that life is scared (Option A), inmates should be returned to the society as they are responsible citizens (Option B), Probation will solve all of the problems of overcrowding (Option D)  are incorrect.
