The declaration of independence written by Stephen Lucas portrayed the colonists as  victims of the drama. He stated also the separation of the Americans and the English people. It is even reinforced when he broke down and cried when he saw<em> a woman's white glove</em> as it has been narrated <u><em>,"He breaks down, crying."</em></u> There must be something special about the white gloves that made him cry. The audience also sees Miep and this gives them a clue that she's young as it has been narrated that<u><em> "She is pregnant"</em></u> and she's seen to have a big belly.
