The Macedonian Empire existed and fell apart before the establishment of the Byzantine Empire, but that doesn't mean that these two empires don't have any connection, on the contrary, the Macedonian Empire actually contributed a lot to the development of the Byzantine Empire. They implemented lot of reforms, with the result being increase in the production of goods, stimulating greater demand, and encouraging trade, leading to economic boom. Also, the cities started to become larger, more beautiful, and better organized, while the population was also on the rise because of the improved living conditions. The education and knowledge were encouraged as well, so more and more of the population was becoming educated and had much better understanding of the world. This period is also referred to as the ''Macedonian Renaissance''.
