Human bodies don't naturally produce iron, it can only be obtained through the diet or supplements. Pregnancy increases woman's blood supply by 50 percent. Iron is used by the body to make red blood cells. An increase in blood means that a pregnant woman will need more red blood cells and more iron in order to make those blood cells. When she doesn't have enough iron in her body, anemia can be developed. It's the most common condition for a pregnant woman. It can be really dangerous both for the mother and the baby.

Iron intake is also followed by the bunch of minerals and vitamins, such as: vitamin D, folic acid, calcium, iodine etc.
