h^{2} = a^{2} +b^{2}

Now we can plug in the values and solve for the hypotenuse (h)

h^{2} = 240^{2} +140^{2}

h^{2} = 57,600 +19,600

h^{2} = 77,200 ... square root of 77,200

h = 277.85m .... rounded up

Therefore, the length of the ladder should be 277.85 meters long
