Harper has $15.00 to spend at her grocery store. She is going to buy bags of fruit that cost $4.75 each and one box of crackers

that costs $3.50. Write and solve an inequality that models this situation and could be used to determine e the maximum number of bags of fruit, (b), Harper can buy.

Answer: The required inequality is,

4.75 b +3.50 ≤ 15.00

Step-by-step explanation:

Here, b represents the number of bags of fruit bought by her,

Since, the cost of each bag of fruits = $ 4.75,

⇒ The cost of b bags of fruit = 4.75b dollars,

Also, she buy one box of crackers that costs $3.50,

Thus, her total expenditure = 4.75 b + 3.50

According to the question,

Her total expenditure can not exceed to $ 15.00,

⇒  4.75 b + 3.50 ≤ 15.00

Which is the required inequality that is used to determine the maximum number of bags of fruit bought by her.

First write the inequality:    15\leq4.75x +3.50

Then to solve, first subtract 3.50 from both sides to get:

11.50\leq4.75x

Then divide by 4.75 to get 2.42, and since you can't buy .42 of a bag  of fruit, you round down. So your final answer would be 2 bags of fruit.

Write equations for the horizontal and vertical lines passing through the point (4, -5).
raketka [301]

Answer:

Horizontal line: y=-5

Vertical line: x = 4

Step-by-step explanation:

As we have to determine the equations for the horizontal and vertical lines passing through the point (4, -5).

  • To determine the equation for the horizontal line passing through the point (4, -5), we must observe that the horizontal line will always have the same y-value regardless of the x-value.

Therefore, the equation of the horizontal line passing through the point (4, -5) will be: y=-5

  • To determine the equation for the vertical line passing through the point (4, -5), we must observe that the vertical line will always have the same x-value regardless of the y-value.

Therefore, the equation of the vertical line passing through the point (4, -5) will be: x=4

Hence:

Horizontal line: y=-5

Vertical line: x = 4

What fraction is equivalent to 36/60 and the sum of the numerator and denominator is 24
almond37 [142]

Answer:

The fraction is \frac{9}{15}

Step-by-step explanation:

\frac{36}{60} = \frac{x}{y}

Where x and y are the numerator and denominator of our new fraction respectively.

Also given is that x + y = 24

So  \frac{x}{y} = 36 ÷ 60 = 0.6

x = 0.6y

Substituting x in x + y = 24 gives;

0.6y + y = 24 , 1.6y = 24

y = 24 ÷ 1.6 = 15

x = 24 - 15 = 9

So our fraction is \frac{9}{15}

"Since the ratio is 5:7 you can think in total there was 12 equal blocks of money invested. 5 of those blocks belonged to Jim and 7 of those blocks belonged to Gail. Since they invested $3,600 and then made $6,450 in total there is $10,050. Divide that total into 12 equal blocks of $837.50 and 5 of those blocks belong to Jim. So he will get $4,187.50"
