Answer: Context

Context is the background and surroundings of the events in a text. This includes the historical, political and social climate within which the work was created. It is important to know a work's context in order to better understand the ideas it presents. Judging a work of literature based on our own context can lead to unfair judgements regarding its quality and relevance.

Answer:

This year has been hard for everyone in the world, because of the pandemic. Like many others, my brother has been dealing with panic attacks due to the quarantine, so my entire family has been struggling as we are uncertain on how to help him. However, this experience has brought us together. We decided to establish family activities to distract him. We organized our schedules around him so he´s always accompanied. Which statement best captures Zimbardo’s point of view regarding the Abu Ghraib prison abuses ?
borishaifa [10]
Zimbardo does not justify their actions, only explains how these abuses likely
developed under certain conditions.

In the article, Zimbardo refers to his own experiments about human behavior in certain conditions to explain the reasons behind the soldiers' behavior. He states that their mental state allowed for their actions because of "stress, fear, boredom and heat exhaustion, coupled with no supervision, no training, and no accountability." In the text he never states that their behavior is acceptable or justified given the conditions, he is merely explaining how good people can do bad things.
