Rewrite as:

     x + x + 1 = 45 ;

↔  1x + 1x + 1 = 45 ;

→  2x + 1 = 45 ;

Subtract "1" from each side of the equation;

      2x + 1 −1  = 45 − 1 ;

to get:
      2x = 44 ;

Divide EACH SIDE of the equation by "2" ; to isolate "x" on one side of the equation; and to solve for "x" ;
