2 consecutive even numbers.....x and x + 2

x(x + 2) = 7(x + 2) + 10
x^2 + 2x = 7x + 14 + 10
x^2 + 2x = 7x + 24
x^2 + 2x - 7x - 24 = 0
x^2 - 5x - 24 = 0
(x - 8)(x + 3) = 0

x - 8 = 0
x = 8

x + 3 = 0
x = -3...not this one because it is negative

x = 8
x + 2 = 8 + 2 = 10

so ur 2 consecutive even numbers are 8 and 10

Evaluate 3x - 4y + 11 for x = -2 and y = -1
katrin [286]

Answer:

9

Step-by-step explanation:

Plug in -2 for x, and -1 for y, and solve:

3x - 4y + 11

3(-2) - 4(-1) + 11

Remember to follow PEMDAS. First, multiply. Remember, that when you multiply:

2 positive signs will result in a positive answer.

1 positive & 1 negative will result in a negative answer.

2 negative will result in a positive answer.

3 * -2 = -6

-4 * -1 = 4

-6 + 4 + 11 = 9

9 is your answer.

two sides of an obtuse triangle measure 12 inches and 14 inches .the longest side measures 14 inches .what is the greatedt possi
lana [24]
The largest side of the triangle measures 14 in. The triangle is obtuse so no two sides can be of equal length.

The sides of the triangle must follows the following two rules:
a) The sum of any two sides must be greater than the third side.
b) The difference of any two sides must be greater than the third side.

Since the largest side is 14, the unknown side will be smaller than 14. Only whole number values are allowed so the answer to this question will be 13.

For the side lengths 12, 13, 14, the sum of any two sides will be greater than the third side and difference of any two sides will be smaller than the two sides. The length is a whole number and the greatest positive number.

So, the greatest possible whole number length of the unknown side can be 13 inches.

Lynette needs to make 2 birthday cards. Ellen needs to make 3 times as many. If y represents the number of cards Lynette need to
antiseptic1488 [7]

Answer:

3y-y

Step-by-step explanation:

first you need to figure out how many cards Ellen needs to make. (3*2=6) but it ask how many more cards does she have to make then Lynette which means you then have to subtract how many cards Lynette is making from how many cards Ellen is making. (6-2) making the whole process. (3*2-2) now replace 2 with Y. (3y-y)
