It emphasized the free market economy as the best path to economic reconstruction—and the best defense against communism in Western Europe. Congress responded to Marshall’s proposal by authorizing the European Recovery Program, better known as the Marshall Plan. An investment of about $13 billion in Europe during the next few years resulted in the extraordinarily rapid and durable reconstruction of a democratic Western Europe.
The principle of federalism divides the powers between the powers of the federation and the individual powers of the state. The federal government makes laws that all the members of the federation have to obey, but in turn the states can make their own laws that are not enumerated by the federation and the federation has to acknowledge and respect these laws.
The Russo-Japanese war, which occurred in 1904 to 1905, has
plenty of unique aspects to it. It not only served as the entry stage of Japan
into world attention for defeating an established European power, but also served
as a test bed of new technological armaments. It is the first time an Asian
country soundly defeated a European country. New weapons and armaments were
used, like machine guns, rapid-firing guns, and naval mines. It was a total war
where Russia and Japan’s economy was totally involved in war effort, and it occurred
just before World War I. It also caused very significant changes to both
countries thereafter; Russia was brought down by a bloody revolution while Japan
spiraled down to militarism, which is something not previously observed on past
wars.
