in a certain population, 11% of people are left-handed. Suppose that you plan to randomly select 100 people and ask each person

whether they are left handed. Suppose that in calculating each of the probabilities below, you use the normal distribution as an approximation to the binomial but that you fail to use a continuity correction. In which cases will you obtain an answer that is too large? A: the probability that among the 100 people, at least 12 are left-handed B: the probability that among the 100 people, more than 12 are left-handed C: the probability that among the 100 people, between 10 and 14 inclusive are left-handed Choose best response a. B only b. A only c. A and C d. B and C

Answer:

c. A and C

Step-by-step explanation:

The binomial distribution is a "DISCRETE probability distribution that summarizes the probability that a value will take one of two independent values under a given set of parameters. The assumptions for the binomial distribution are that there is only one outcome for each trial, each trial has the same probability of success, and each trial is mutually exclusive, or independent of each other".

Let X the random variable of interest, on this case we now that:

X \sim Binom(n=100, p=0.11)

The probability mass function for the Binomial distribution is given as:

P(X)=(nCx)(p)^x (1-p)^{n-x}

Where (nCx) means combinatory and it's given by this formula:

nCx=\frac{n!}{(n-x)! x!}

We need to check the conditions in order to use the normal approximation.

np=100*0.11=11 > 10 \geq 10

n(1-p)=100*(1-0.11)=99 \geq 10

So we see that we satisfy the conditions and then we can apply the approximation.

If we appply the approximation the new mean and standard deviation are:

E(X)=np=100*0.11=11

\sigma=\sqrt{np(1-p)}=\sqrt{100*0.11(1-0.11)}=3.129

Part A

We want this probability:

P(X \geq 12) = 1-P(X

The z score is defined as

Z=\frac{x-\mu}{\sigma}.

P(X \geq 12) = 1-P(X

Part B

P(X>12) = 1-P(X\leq 12) = 1-P(Z< \frac{12-11}{3.129})=1-0.625=0.375[/tex]

Part C

P(10\leq X \leq 14) = P(X

The z score is defined as

Z=\frac{x-\mu}{\sigma}.

P(10 \leq X \leq 14) =P(Z< \frac{14-11}{3.129}) -P(Z< \frac{10-11}{3.129})=P(Z

So then the best option is : c. A and C

What is the slope of a line that is perpendicular to the line?
jolli1 [7]
The slope is 4.

To find the perpendicular slope, you use the negative reciprocal of the slope you already have. Since the original slope is -1/4, you flip -1/4 to get -4. You then find the negative of -4 to get 4

At noon, ship A is 180 km west of ship B. Ship A is sailing east at 35 km/h and ship B is sailing north at 25 km/h. How fast is
weeeeeb [17]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Gotta love these motion  problems!!! This one  is especially tricky!  At noon, ship A is 180 km west of ship B.  If ship A is traveling east, it is closing its distance to ship B (if ship B didn't move).  But ship B is moving north at the same time.  We need to find the distance each can travel in 4 hours using the d = rt formula.  For ship A.  We know it's moving at 35 km/h, so in 4 hours it can move d = 35(4) which is 140 km.  Remember that is closing the distance to ship B.  So it is 180 - 140 directly south of ship B.  This problem will turn out to be a right triangle problem of sorts.  The distance of 40 km serves as the base of this right triangle.

With ship B moving north at 25 km/hr, it can travel d = 25(4) which is 100 km.  This serves as the height of the triangle.  We are asked to find the rate at which the distance is changing 4 hours from their starting points.  We know how far each can travel in those 4 hours, so in order to find the rate of change (which is the same thing as the slope!), we take the height and divide it by the base because that is the same thing as taking the rise over the run.  100/40 is 10/4 which is a rate of change of 2.5 km/hr

Math Help Please....

Let's go through the answer choices one by one:

A. False. The line segment contains more than just the endpoints

B. False. There are points in this description that extend beyond the endpoints. If this was a line instead of a segment, then choice B would be the answer

C. True. This is the answer. Though your teacher should have added "collinear" to the sentence to make it clear that the points are between M and N, and also collinear to M and N. All of these points form the line segment MN

D. False. That would be the perpendicular bisector of MN

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So once again, the final answer is choice C
