vodka [1.7K]

The United States joined World War 1 first because German U-Boats sunk the Louisiana Ship which was carrying 1962 passengers where 1198 lost their lives. The ship had 128 Americans as it left for Liverpool from New-York on May 1st, 1915 which resulted in the rise of a lot of outrage in the U.S. Secondly, Germany had resumed restricted submarine warfare in the Atlantic through a policy initiated in 1915 which allowed U-Boats to hunt and sink merchant ships without warning. The entry of the U.S in the war resulted in a boom in the economy as industries enjoyed an increase in their profits. The war further impacted change on the social, economic and political as the U.S emerged as a world military and industrial leader. There was also a rise in immigrants from other European countries with estimates of 300,000-500000 African Americans moving North to the cities.

How was marxism looked upon by society
svlad2 [7]

Answer:

It has it supporter and it has its criticism.

Explanation:

For marxism to be implemented, people need to increase government control in the economy. The ownership of private property will be either eliminated or extremely limited and all resources will be handled by the government. So rather than competing in free market competition, society as a collective will decide what people can and can do in the economy and the distribution of resources will be controlled by the government.

Supporters of Marxism argue that this will eliminate income disparity and social class in society. It is true , to a certain extend. Since the government is dividing the resources, almost no people will receive more than the others.

Critics of marxism argued that this will make government becomes too powerful and provide no incentive for the people work. If people are not rewarded with the ability to own private property, we will not attract enough people to fill jobs with high difficulties and requirements.

What impact did Philip II and Louis XIV have on the economies of their nations?
Amanda [17]

King Philip II of Spain was not lucky. His late father, King Charles V had left him a huge national debt and he defaulted on his own loans four times between 1557 and 1596. One big issue was that Spain had back them the greatest Empire in the world but the kingdom of Spain proper was not heavily populated and thus tax revenue was minimal, especially since local lords took most of it for themselves. Spain became heavily reliant on revenue from its colonies in the New World and Asia to pay for expenses but even that did not prevent loan defaults in various occasions.

King Louis XIV of France also inherited a dire financial situation but he had the foresight to choose a very capable and diligent Minister of Finances, Jean-Baptiste Colbert. Colbert applied very efficient taxation, forbidding the auctioning of taxes and of exemptions that had not been authorized by the government. He also made it mandatory to keep accurate records on all forms of taxation so as to prevent embezzlement of these funds by corrupt tax officials. The deficit was resorbed as well as the national debt. However, his extremely lavish lifestyle and his constant wars against other European powers eventually would undermine the beneficial aspects of his reforms. Also, he refused to tax nobility and most taxes were paid by peasants.
