Ok

so the focus is on the opening side of the parabola

so for a vertex of (h,k)
opening up and down
(x-h)²=4p(y-k)
p is the distance from vertex to focus
it is also the distance from the vertex to the closes point on directix
2p=distance from focus to directix

p is positive if the focus is above the directix

ok
y=9 and (7,6)
9>6
directix is above the vertex
p is negative
find distance
from 9 to 6 is 3
3=2p
1.5=p
p is negative
and the vertex will be 1.5 above the focus and 1.5 below the directix
vertex is (7,7.5)

an unopened can of iced tea contains 350 cubic centimeters of liquid. if the van is 5 inches long and has a .8 inch diameter, wh
MariettaO [177]

the can is 5 inches tall, so its height is 5 inches, so 3 inches off 5 inches that'd be 3/5.

the can has a diameter of 0.8 inches, meaning it has a radius of half that, or 0.4 inches.

if say the volume of iced-tea is V, how much is 3/5 of V?  well, is just their product.

\bf \textit{volume of a cylinder}\\\\ V=\pi r^2 h~~ \begin{cases} r=radius\\ h=height\\[-0.5em] \hrulefill\\ r=0.4\\ h=5 \end{cases}\implies V=\pi (0.4)^2(5)\implies V=0.8\pi \\\\\\ \stackrel{\textit{and 3/5 of that will be}}{\cfrac{3}{5}\cdot 0.8\pi }\implies V\approx \stackrel{in^3}{1.51}

The height of an object off the ground, h (in feet) t seconds after it is launched into the air is given by
creativ13 [48]

The average rate of change of h over the interval is -48 feet per second.

Given,

The height of an object off the ground, h (in feet) t seconds after it is launched into the air is given by

h(t) = −16t2 + 96t, 0 ≤ t ≤ 6.

We need to find the average rate of change of h over the interval [3, 6].

<h3>How do we find the average rate of change of a function over an interval?</h3>

If we have an interval [a, b] and a function f(x).

The rate of change is given by:

= f(b) - f(a) / b - a

We have,

h(t) = −16t² + 96t and [3, 6].

h(6) = -16 x 6² + 96 x 6 = -576 + 576 = 0

h(3) =  -16 x 3² + 96 x 3 = -144 + 288 = 144

The average rate of change of h is:

= h(6) - h(3) / 6 - 3

= 0 - 144 / 3

= -144 / 3

= -48

Thus the average rate of change of h over the interval is -48 feet per second.
