To find the slope of a line given two points, you should use the formula, Slope= \frac{ y_{2}-y_{1} }{ x_{2}- x_{1}}

.

In this exercise is given the coordinates of two points and it is asked to find the slope of a line which intercepts both points, which are (-7,3) and (1,-9). To find the slope, you should substitute the given coordinates into the previous mention formula.

Slope= \frac{ y_{2}-y_{1} }{ x_{2}- x_{1}}
Slope= \frac{(3--9)}{(-7-1)}
Slope= \frac{12}{-8}
Slope=-1.5

The slope of the line which passes through the coordinates (-7,3) and (1,9) is \frac{-6}{4} or -1.5.

UNO [17]
There are two pears because 8 pieces are either oranges or bananas and there are 3 bananas so that means there are 5 oranges there is 1 more orange than apples so there are 4 apples and since there are twice as many apples as they are pears there are 2 pears.

Two trains leave stations 330 miles apart at the same time and travel toward each other. One train travels at 65 miles per hour
BARSIC [14]

Answer:

<em>Both trains will meet at 2.2 hours (2 hours and 12 minutes).</em>

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>Relative Speed</u>

If two moving objects are traveling through the same line and have speeds v1 and v2 respectively, their relative speed is vr = v1-v2.

Both trains travel toward each other, which means their speeds are of opposite signs.

Let's assume the first train has a positive speed of 65 mph, and the second train has a negative speed of -85 mph. Then, the relative speed is vr = 65 + 85 = 150 mph.

To calculate the time they take to meet, we apply the formula:

\displaystyle t=\frac{x}{vr}

\displaystyle t=\frac{330}{150}=2.2\ hours

Both trains will meet at 2.2 hours (2 hours and 12 minutes).

Give an example of a rational function that has a horizontal asymptote at y = 1 and a vertical asymptote at x = 4.
Greeley [361]

Answer:

Possibility 1: \frac{(x+1)(x+1)}{(x-4)(x+5)}

Possibility 2: \frac{(x+1)(x+3)(x-3)}{x(x-4)(x+5)}

Possibility 3: \frac{-4(x-4)(x+1)}{-4(x-4)(x-4)}

There are infinitely many more possibilities.

Step-by-step explanation:

So we are looking for a fraction in terms of x.

We have a horizontal asymptote so that means the degree of the top has to equal to degree of the bottom. It is also at y=1 which means the coefficient of the leading term on top and bottom must be the same (but not zero) since the same number divided by the same number is 1.

Now we also have a vertical asymptote at x=4 which means we need a factor of x-4 on bottom.

So there is a lot of possibilities. Here are a few:

Possibility 1: \frac{(x+1)(x+1)}{(x-4)(x+5)}

You have the degrees are the same on top and bottom and the leading coefficients are the same.  You also have that factor of (x-4) on bottom.

Possibility 2: \frac{(x+1)(x+3)(x-3)}{x(x-4)(x+5)}

Possibility 3: \frac{-4(x-4)(x+1)}{-4(x-4)(x-4)}

Now a factor of (x-4) can be canceled here but you still have a factor of (x-4) left on bottom so you still have the vertical asymptote. You also still have the same leading coefficient on top and bottom (-4 in this case) and the same degree.
