Answer: Upper left corner

==============================================================

Further Explanation:

The piecewise function is broken down into three parts which I'll refer to as A, B and C (moving down the rows).

Part A is y = -4 but only if x is -3 or smaller. Points on this line include (-3,-4), (-4,-4), (-5,-4), etc. Basically any point where the y value is -4, and the x value is -3 or smaller.

Part B of this piecewise funciton is exactly one point which is (2,0). We plot y = 0 but only when x = 2.

Finally, part C is the horizontal line through y = 3 but we only graph this line if x is larger than 2. Two points on this line are (2,3) and (3,3). The point (2,3) is an open circle because of the fact that x > 2. So x = 2 is not allowed for this piece.

Put this all together, and you get the graph shown in the upper left corner as the final answer.

Note: the bottom left corner is very close to the proper answer, but the presence of an open hole at (-3,-4) is why this is not the actual answer. We are including this point as part of the first piece. This point is included because of the "or equal to" as part of the inequality.

When you multiply a function by -1, what is the effect on its graph?
nataly862011 [7]

C.

If you multiply a function by -1, you are inverting its sign. It means that you have the parent function f(x), and the child function -f(x).

This means that, if you choose the same input x, it will be mapped once to f(x), and once to -f(x).

So, if you draw the two graphs, you will associate two opposite y values to the same x value.

This kind of transformation, (x,y) \to (x,-y) is exactly a reflection with respect to the x axis.

The lengths of text messages are normally distributed with a population standard deviation of 4 characters and an unknown popula
umka21 [38]

Answer:

The answer is "(25.32, 30.68)"

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

\bar x = 28\\\\ \sigma = 4\\\\n =26\\\\

When 98\% confidence level so, the z:

\alpha = 1 - 98\% = 1 - 0.98 = 0.2\\\\\frac{\alpha}{2} =\frac{0.02}{2} = 0.01\\\\Z_{\frac{\alpha}{2}} = Z_{0.01} = 1.645\ \ \  ( Using \ z \ table )\\\\

E = Z_{\frac{\alpha}{2} \times ( \frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n}})

= 1.645 \times (\frac{4}{\sqrt{26}})\\\\=2.68

When  98% confidence interval estimate of the population mean  is,

\bar x - E < \mu < \bar x + E\\\\28 - 2.68 <  \mu < 28 + 2.68\\\\25.32 <  \mu < 30.68\\\\(25.32,  30.68)\\\\

You are contacted by a phone-in technical support business that is interested in some information about the amount of time their
Gennadij [26K]

Answer:

The average hold time is 10.47 minutes.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let <em>X</em> = time the customers of a phone-in technical support business spend on hold.

The population mean of the random variable <em>X</em> is, <em>μ</em> = 11 minutes.

The population standard deviation of the random variable <em>X</em> is, <em>σ </em>= 1.16 minutes.

A random sample size, <em>n</em> = 62 callers are selected.

According to the Central limit theorem if large samples (<em>n</em> > 30) are selected from an unknown population with mean <em>μ</em> and standard deviation <em>σ</em> then the sampling distribution of sample mean (\bar x) follows a Normal distribution.

The mean of the sampling distribution of sample mean is:

\mu_{\bar x}=\mu=11

The standard deviation of the sampling distribution of sample mean is:

\sigma_{\bar x}=\frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n}}=\frac{1.16}{\sqrt{62}}=0.147

It is provided that P(\bar X>a)=0.79.

Compute the value of <em>a</em> as follows:

P(\bar X>a)=0.79\\P(Z>z)=0.79\\1-P(Z

The value of <em>z</em> for the above probability is, <em>z</em> = -0.806.

The value of <em>a</em> is:

z=\frac{a-\mu_{\bar x}}{\sigma_{\bar x}}\\-0.806=\frac{a-11}{0.147}\\a=11-(0.86\times 0.147)\\a=10.87

Thus, the average hold time is 10.47 minutes.
