The Habeas Corpus of 1679 required accused criminals to be examined by a court about its detention and, that way, prevent arbitrary imprisonment.

Explanation:

The Act was passed by the King Charles´ II parliament and it was intended to strengthen the ancient writ of Habeas Corpus. That writ had already been in use for at least five centuries but with the creation of the Act, it was spread throughout the country a regimentation to use the Habeas Corpus.
