An increase in the volume of cell beyond its limited surface area will lead to the death of the cell.

Further explanation:

In a cell, the movement of molecules takes place into and out of the cell with the help of the plasma membrane. The waste products are excreted out of the cell while the food material and gases are absorbed by the cell with water. The internal region of the cell is served by the regions of the cell surface. The internal volume of the cell increases as the cell grows in size. This also results in the expansion of the cell membrane.

It is noted that the rate of increase in cell volume is higher than that of the surface area. Therefore, the amount of surface area for the transport of materials into the cell decreases comparatively with the increasing volume as the cell now requires more food in order to survive. The growing needs of the enlarged cell cannot be met by the decreased surface area. Therefore, the cell needs to stop further growth for survival.

As the cell becomes larger, the ratio of surface area to volume goes down. When the cell enlarges far away to a certain limit, the passage of molecules across the membrane cannot match to accommodate the increasing volume. In such cases, the cell either divides or stops its functions. A large number of small cells are formed when the cell divides, each cell having favorable ratio of surface area to volume in order to function properly. While when a cell volume becomes too large, the diffusion pathways involved in the transport of materials through the membrane also becomes long. These diffusion pathways are unable to support the increased volume and eventually, the cell dies.

The classification of anthropoid primates such as chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans,
OLga [1]

Answer:

C) the group is paraphyletic.

Explanation:

In the classification of hominoids, the orangutan, gorilla, and chimpanzee are grouped together into the Pongidae family; while humans are placed in another family (Hominidae) because this classification recognizes to Pongidae as a paraphyletic group. The paraphyletic groups are the taxa that have a common ancestor and include some (instead of everyone) their descendants. In this case, the Pongidae family is composed of genera that descended from one ancestral species but does not include the complete list of the descendants of that species.

10. If one strand of DNA is
soldi70 [24.7K]

Answer:

Explanation:As previously stated, DNA is a macromolecule that's made up of individual subunits called nucleotides. Each nucleotide has three parts:

Brought to you by Sciencing

A deoxyribose sugar.

A phosphate group.

A nitrogenous base.

DNA nucleotides can contain one of four nitrogenous bases. These bases are adenine (A), thymine (T), guanine (G) and cytosine (C).

These nucleotides come together to form long chains known as DNA strands. Two complementary DNA strands bond to each other in what looks like a ladder before winding into the double helix form.

The two strands are held together through hydrogen bonds that form between the nitrogenous bases. Adenine (A) forms bonds with thymine (T) while cytosine (C) forms bonds with guanine (G); A only ever pairs with T, and C only ever pairs with G.

Complementary Definition (Biology)

In biology, specifically in terms of genetics and DNA, complementary means that the polynucleotide strand paired with the second polynucleotide strand has a nitrogenous base sequence that is the reverse complement, or the pair, of the other strand.

Osmosis is an example of passive transport. How might the results have changed in this lab if the gummy bear had been able to us
Margaret [11]
Passive transport is the movement of biochemicals and other atomic or molecular substances across cell membranes without need of energy input. On the other hand, active transport is the movement of molecules across a cell membrane from a region of their lower concentration to a region of their higher concentration which needs energy input.

What is the most important reason for food handlers to understand and apply food safety knowledge?
stealth61 [152]
The most important reason for food handlers to understand and apply food safety knowledge is to prevent the spread of illnesses through food.
Food workers play a critical role in ensuring food safety, those who do not practice proper personal hygiene, including hand washing at appropriate times and using appropriate methods can contaminate food. It is therefore; very important for food workers to understand and apply food safety measures so as to prevent spread of diseases through food.
