The given expression is

8^{1/2} +16^{1/4}-12^{1/2}+81^{1/4}

We can write 8 as cube of 2, 16 ad fourth power of 2, 12 as square of 2 times 3 and 81 as fourth power of 3, that is

(2^3)^{1/2} +(2^4)^{1/2} - (2^2 *3)^{1/2} + (3^4)^{1/2}

In case of two powers, we have to multiply them.

=2^{3/2} + 2^{4/2} -2^{4/2} * 3^{1/2} + 3^{4/2}

Simplifying the exponent, will give

=2*2^{1/2} +4 -4*3^{1/2} +9

Combining like terms,

=13+2*2^{1/2} -4*3^{1/2}

Answer:

2\sqrt{2} +5-2\sqrt{3}

Step-by-step explanation:

Property of Radical expression is:

(a^x)^{\frac{y}{z} } = a^{\frac{xy}{z} }

Step to step solution of given expression is:

8^{\frac{1}{2} }+16^{\frac{1}{4} }-12^{\frac{1}{2} }+81^{\frac{1}{4} }\\\Rightarrow (2^{3})^{\frac{1}{2} }+(2^{4})^{\frac{1}{4} }-(2^{2}\times3)^{\frac{1}{2} }+(3^{4})^{\frac{1}{4} }\\\Rightarrow 2^{\frac{3}{2} } + 2 - 2\sqrt{3} +3\\\Rightarrow 2\sqrt{2} +5-2\sqrt{3}

1. The time taken for the water to fall that much is 0.2 s

2. The initial speed of the water is 4 m/s

<h3>1. How to determine the time </h3>
  • Height (h) = 20 cm = 20 / 100 = 0.2 m
  • Acceleration due to gravity (g) = 9.8 m/s²
  • Time (t) =?

h = ½gt²

0.2 = ½ × 9.8 × t²

0.2 = 4.9 × t²

Divide both side by 4.9

t² = 0.2 / 4.9

Take the square root of both side

t = √(0.2 / 4.9)

t = 0.2 s

<h3>2. How to determine the initial speed</h3>
  • Horizontal distance (s) = 80 cm = 80 / 100 = 0.8 m
  • Time (t) = 0.2 s
  • Initial speed (u) =?

s = ut

Divide both sides by t

u = s / t

u = 0.8 / 0.2

u = 4 m/s
