<u><em>Answer:</em></u>
both numbers are negative
negative number is greater than the positive number

<u><em>Explanation:</em></u>
<u>In order to add two rational numbers and get a negative value, one of two scenarios should occur:</u>
<u>1- both numbers are negative.</u>
In this case, the answer would definitely be negative as the two numbers are originally negative
<u>Examples:</u>
-9 + -2 = -9 - 2 = -11
\frac{-1}{2} +   \frac{-3}{2} =  \frac{-4}{2} = -2

<u>2- negative number is greater than the positive number</u>
In this case, the negative sign would dominate and the result would be negative
<u>Examples:</u>
-9 + 3 = -6
\frac{-5}{6} +  \frac{2}{6} =  \frac{-3}{6}

Hope this helps :)

-- If both of them are negative,

or

-- If their signs are different and the negative number has
a bigger absolute value than the positive one,

then

-- Their sum is negative.

Actually, I don't think it matters whether they're rational or not.

A box contains four equal sized cards labeled 1,3,5,7 Tim will select one card from the box What is the probability that Tim wil
Mice21 [21]

Answer:

0 is the probability that Tim will select a card labeled with a number 6.

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given the following in the question:

Number of cards = 4

Cards with labels:

1,3,5,7

Tim will select one card from the box. We have to find the probability that Tim will select a card labeled with a number 6.

Formula:

\text{Probability} = \displaystyle\frac{\text{Number of favourable outcomes}}{\text{Total number of outcomes}}

\text{P(Label 6) = }\dfrac{0}{4}= 0

0 is the probability that Tim will select a card labeled with a number 6. Thus, it is an impossible event.

Given: T is the midpoint of JK¯¯¯¯¯JK¯, JK = 5x – 3, and JT = 2x + 1. Determine the length of JK¯¯¯¯¯JK¯
Helen [10]
JK where T is the midpoint.   J >>>>> T >>>>> K.

JK = 5x - 3
JT = 2x + 1

Because T is the midpoint, it means that  JT = TK
So, JT + TK = JK

(2x + 1) + (2x + 1) = 5x - 3
4x + 2 = 5x - 3
4x - 5x = -3 - 2
-x = -5
x = 5

JK = 5x - 3
JK = 5(5) - 3
JK = 25 -3
JK = 22

The length of JK is 22.
