British-american thinker thomas paine was representative of the enlightenment era because he wrote about the ideals of transnational human rights, freedom and independence.

Thomas Paine is usually known as one of the founding fathers of the United States and wrote two very influential pamphlets that inspired the 'patriots' to declare the Independence of the 13 colonies from Great Britain.

He was originally born in Norkfolk, UK but later moved to the colonies and had a huge impact on how the United States developed as a country in the coming decades.
