How many significant figures in the number 3.140

Chemistry

There are 4 sigfigs(significant figures).

All zeroes before a non-zero (0.001) are NOT sigfigs. There are none here, so disregard this for this situation.
All zeroes between ARE sigfigs, but again this is not significant(pun not intended).
Zeroes after non-zeroes depend on the decimal. The number 100 only has 1 sigfig, as the zeroes follow and there is no decimal at the end. This differs from the number 100., which has 3 sigfigs. The difference is the one has a decimal after the zeroes, meaning that it is more accurate. This rule also applies to a number such as 1.00, as here it has 3 sigfigs.

Since there are 3 non-zero numbers and one 0 after the decimal, there are (3 + 1) = 4 sigfigs.

I'm not sure if this is exactly right, but I'm pretty sure ,:)

In a number with decimal, zeroes to the right of last non-zero digit are significant.

Hence there are 4 significant digits in 3.140.

Hope this helps, have a great day ahead!

If 0.45 moles of NaCl was dissolved in enough water to make 300.0mL of solutions, what is the molarity?
erica [24]
Molarity = Moles / Liters! So in this instance, if you have 0.45 moles of NaCl, and we convert 300.0 mL to 0.3 L, we would plug in M = 0.45/0.3. The answer would be 1.5 M NaCl!

consider a 1000-ml graduated cylinder with marks every 100 ml. a student records the volume of liquid in the cylinder as 750 ml.
Ludmilka [50]

Answer:

Explanation:

The 1000-ml graduated cylinder with marks every 100 ml has least count of 100 ml . It means it can not measure a volume less than 100 ml . It can also measure volume in the integral multiple of 100 ml like 200 ml , 300 ml , 400 ml etc perfectly .  All these have significant figure of one .

It can not measure volume like 150 , 250 , 255 , 760 etc because these measurements are not the integral multiple of 100 . 750 is not a integral multiple of 100 so it can not measure volume of 750 ml.

Can anyone tell me 5 reactions of metals with nonmetals?
jeyben [28]

non-Metals:

Nitrogen.

Oxygen.

Helium.

Sulfur.

Chlorine.

Explanation/Answer:

Metal atoms have only a few electrons in their outer shell whereas non-metal atoms have lots of electrons in their outer shell. This means that metals tend to react with non-metals. When a metal reacts with a non-metal, electrons transfer from the metal to the non-metal.
