While writing in scientific notation we use the following rule:

Rule 1: Bring the decimal point one digit before extreme left .

Rule 2: Count the number of digits moved to left and raise 10 to the power of that number.

We are given the number 86,940 m

Applying rule 1:

here decimal initially is at the end after 0 , 86940. m

Now we move it toward left after 8,

8.6940

Applying rule 2:

We have moved 4 digits to the left so we raise 10 to the power 4 ,

8.6490 * 10⁴

Answer: 86490 will become 8.6490 * 10⁴ in scientific notation.

Happy New Year from MrBillDoesMath!

Answer:

 i ^ (2n) = (i^2)^n = (-1)^n = -1 if n is odd and = 1 if n is even

 i ^ (2n+1) = i^(2n)* i =     -1 * i = -i if n is odd and =  1*i = i if n is even

Not sure if this answers your question but hopefully pushes you n the right direction.

Thank you,

MrB
