Hi! Tricky question you've got there!

So far, we know that Mary is 16 and her brother is 4 (16 is 4 times as old as 4).

16 + x = 2(4 + x)

16 + x = 8 + 2x

x = 8

Now, this isn't finished yet.

(4 + 8) = 12

12 twice is 24, so Mary will be 24 years old.

In this research, environmental stimulation would be considered the independent variable.

Explanation:

In research, the independent variable is the characteristic that tends to be controlled or modifyed to study its effect on another variable (that is known as the dependent variable). In the case presented, the researcher wants to study the effect of environmental stimulation on the prain development; the dependent variable is the brain development of young infants and the independent variable is the environmental stimulation, that is believed to have an effect on the brain development (dependent variable).

Answer:

I can see that there are no choices.

fallacy of bandwagon

Explanation:

A "logical fallacy" refers to the error of reasoning or logical gap that makes an argument invalid.

The situation above commits the fallacy of the bandwagon because the argument is being supported only according to a significant number of population. This is a fallacy because it doesn't necessarily mean all of the retired persons are unhappy about the level of Social Security assistance due to the opinion of 30 persons who agreed that they were unhappy. It becomes a "standalone justification" of the validity of an argument. We cannot judge the happiness or unhappiness of all retired persons according only to a group of 30 persons (even though they were chosen from different parts of the country).

So, this explains the answer.
