On each side of the neck there are the carotid artery and the jugular vein. the carotid artery divides in the head in 2 parts: internal and external carotid.
To supply the oxygenated blood to the head and neck portion of the body, the Carotid arteries perform their functions which are located on both sides of the neck. Common carotid artery arises directly from the aorta on the left and as a branch of the brachiocephalic trunk on the right. They divide in the neck to form the external and internal carotid arteries. The internal arteries supply the blood to the brain and external plays role for the face and neck portion.
