B. Polite 

Explanation: 
You should always have a formal, polite tone as a default when you don't know who you are talking to, or if you are talking to important people. The only time you would be informal or personal is when you are talking to friends or people you are comfortable with. Grammatical is another tone you would use, but that falls under the polite tone.
